LAC Transdisciplinary Community

Introduction
The Social Education Center has transformed into the "JOY FOR YOUNG Liberal Arts Cross-disciplinary Community," transitioning the existing family of dormitories into thematic "Liberal Arts Cross-disciplinary Communities." This aims at customized, cross-disciplinary learning by recruiting interested teachers to act as community leaders. All students are welcome to join, choosing themes that interest them for exploration. This environment promotes diverse learning experiences where students feel supported and are guided to develop soft skills like self-exploration, interdisciplinary knowledge, independent thinking, communication, teamwork, global perspective, social concern, and healthy living.

Planned Activities by the Social Education Center:
  • A monthly "Joy for Young Day" event to encourage interactions and exchanges between students and teachers across different themes and campuses.
  • "Joy for Young Salon": Inviting relevant industry representatives for themed dining experiences to deepen students' understanding of various topics through sharing and discussion.
  • "Joy for Young Achievement Showcase": A semester-end event displaying achievements in both dynamic and static formats, encouraging exchanges between different themes.
With a focus on nurturing future leaders through Liberal Arts Education, the Social Education Center also organizes "thematic lectures" and the "Active Learning Student Self-Learning Program," covering four areas: professional, study, general education, and community, aimed at fostering wise and resilient students who live meaningful, principled, and caring lives.

(1) Thematic Lectures:
Encouraging interdisciplinary and diversified learning, thematic lectures cover topics like life education, art and aesthetics, food, culture, urban and rural landscape exploration, agriculture issues, community development, financial management, mental health, and career exploration.

(2) "Active Learning Student Self-Learning Program"
Promotes soft skills through a "learning by doing" approach, emphasizing practical application and attitude development. Students are encouraged to form self-directed learning communities, supported by mentors, with activities based on interests to strengthen teamwork and foster a self-directed learning environment.
